The Inaugural Gitlin Auster Defender of Democracy Award
Writers for Democratic Action honors Heather Cox Richardson, author of Letters From An American, with the Inaugural Gitlin-Auster Defender of Democracy Award, followed by a conversation between Professor Richardson and the esteemed writer Siri Hustvedt, a WDA founding member and author of Ghost Stories: A Memoir.
The award was presented on behalf of hundreds of WDA members attending on Zoom. But in local gatherings organized across the nation by many state chapters, members also came together in person for Solidarity Watch Parties that both honor Professor Richardson and launch the WDA Book the Vote campaign ahead of the November election.
Heather Cox Richardson is a champion of democracy deserving to be honored. Writers for Democratic Action, a community of more than 4,000 writers, is committed to defending America’s threatened democracy by promoting the solidarity essential to the urgent rescue of truth and justice.
