Thus she revisits the experience of first love, writing her first novel and her relationship with a strange neighbour who gives monologues each night that the author writes down in her diaries. The protagonist’s past and present come into dialogue in this novel about the passage of time, the role of women in society, art, and the writer’s personal motivations."
